En la determinación del tiempo para el cual se considera funcional el sistema, intervienen una serie de variables que deben ser evaluadas para lograr un proyecto económicamente viable. Por lo tanto el período de diseño puede definirse como el tiempo en el cual el sistema será 100% eficiente, ya sea por capacidad en la conducción del gasto deseado o por la existencia física de las instalaciones.

El presente proyecto pertenece al campo de la ingeniería fluidomecánica y consiste en crear una nueva red de abastecimiento de aguas potables para la comarca de Izagaonda (Navarra). Con esta nueva obra, se desea cubrir una demanda ya existente en la zona para los pueblos de Beroiz, Iriso, Ardanaz, Reta y Zuazu y además, abastecer a una urbanización de bungalow y de acampada que se encuentra junto a la ermita de San Miguel.
Aunque la demanda total de habitantes de los lugares antes citados no llegan a los mil habitantes, la obra se va a dimensionar hasta esta cifra, ya que en un futuro es posible que el resto de pueblos cercanos a la comarca necesiten proveerse de agua potable a través de la red de aguas que se va a construir.
La toma de agua se realizará desde el río Irati, junto a la localidad de Ayanz y tras la captación del agua, se tratará para su potabilización y a continuación, una caseta de bombeo nos trasladara el agua ya potabilizada a un depósito situado en la parte superior de la sierra de Gongolaz, desde donde se repartirá el agua a toda la comarca, utilizando la red de abastecimiento existente.
Antecedentes
La Diputación Foral de Navarra, convocó un Concurso de propuestas para el abastecimiento agua potable de una zona de Navarra denominada Izagaondoa. Se trataba del abastecimiento de agua a la comarca de Izagaondoa, con una superficie aproximada de 5.000 Km2 y que comprende unas decenas de localidades, de las que se destaca Ardanaz con unos 80 habitantes por ser el ayuntamiento de la comarca e Iriso, con la mayor población de la zona con aproximadamente unos 180 habitantes.
Es una zona claramente agrícola y ganadera con núcleos de población de menos de 200 habitantes, que sufre una gran despoblación debido fundamentalmente a la falta de industrialización y a la escasez de medios. Junto a la agricultura y ganadería, la industria agroalimentaria es el sustento fundamental de la mayoría de las familias y en donde se basa la economía de la zona.
La comarca se encuentra situada en un valle delimitado al Norte y Este por la sierra de Gongolaz, que le separa de municipios de población importantes como es el de Aoiz y al Sur por la peña de Izaga con una altura ligeramente inferior a los 1300m., que dificulta el acceso a la zona media de Navarra.
El acceso más destacado a la comarca de Izagaondoa se encuentra al Oeste de la misma con la carretera comarcal NA-234 que le comunica con la zona de Aoiz y con la carretera nacional N-240 con dirección a la capital Navarra.

El primero de ellos, a gran distancia en donde se observa la localización de la zona con respecto Pamplona y un segundo, describiendo más profundamente la zona proyectada.
